SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- A branch of the Boys and Girls Clubs is taking action Saturday to improve education opportunities for youth.
The 8th Annual Water Run/Walk began at 9:00 a.m. at the Boys and Girls Clubs Stalnaker Unit.
The Water Run/Walk is a unique spin on the traditional 5K race, participants could beat the heat by following the paths that feature water balloons, water blasters, and a finish-line mister.
A pre-race breakfast helped give runners a little energy boost, and The Heart of the Ozarks Sertoma club was on hand to cook hotdogs after the run.
The BGC Partners in Education was formerly known as the Boys and Girls Clubs of Springfield Auxiliary.
The branch works in partnership with Boys and Girls Clubs of Springfield to provide scholarships for higher education to youths in the club.
BCG Partners in Education issues several scholarships including the “Youth of the Year Scholarship”, dual credit scholarships, and also gap grants.
The group hopes this year’s Water Run/Walk will help fund a $12,000 college scholarship to each Youth of the Year winner.
