Bears Rally Past Redbirds

Missouri State scored late at Hammons Field to beat Illinois State 4-2.
SPRINGFIELD, Mo--Hammons Field will be a very busy place this weekend.

Both the Springfield Cardinals and Missouri State Bears have home games on the schedule.

In our Bear Nation report, Keith Guttin's MSU troops were first on the diamond Friday against Illinois State.

Missouri State is 12-3 against Illinois State at Hammons Field.

And it was a pitchers duel early the Bears Cody Schumacher strikes out Daniel Dwyer looking to end the second.

Illinois State's Dan Savas just as sharp early, he strikes out Spencer Johnson swinging.

Schumacher had to leave the game in the third after losing velocity in his throwing arm.

Jon Harris comes out of the bullpen and Sean Beesly greets him with this single to right that scores Dennis Colon it's 1-nothing Redbirds.

Harris would get out of that inning when he gets Dwyer to ground out to him on the mound still 1-nothing.

Missouri State threatening in the bottom half, runners on the corners and Tate Matheny pops up to short center, Blake Graham tries to score on the sac fly, but he's thrown out at home.

But Matheny would hit a homer later in the game and Missouri State rallies to win 4-2.
