ASH GROVE, Mo. – A former custodian at Missouri State University and 71-year-old Ash Grove resident sat in his truck for about 30 minutes in shock after learning he won a $100,000 Missouri Lottery prize from Casey’s General Store, 410 Miller Rd. in Willard.

“I sat in my pick-up truck for probably 20 or 30 minutes before I moved,” says Ralph Holman.

Holman says he bought two $5,000,000 Jackpot Scratchers tickets and did well on both.

“I got $40 on the first one and then $100,000 on the second one,” he says.

After Holman regained his ability to move, he returned to the convenience store to ask a question.

“I said, ‘What’s the biggest winner you’ve ever sold?’” Holman says. “The girl said that the day before yesterday, she sold one that won $100. I said, ‘Well, I won $100, too.’”

Holman won the $100, plus a few extra zeros.

“Everybody started screaming,” he says. “There was a cop in there, and he patted me on the back. I said, ‘You watch me when I leave. I’m going to be wearing both of my seatbelts.’

Holman says he already has a plan for the money.

I’m going to pay my bills first thing, and then I’m going to pay for every bit of my burial,” he said. “I don’t want my family to have to pay for any of it.”

He says one of the best things about the prize is that he can leave his retirement check in the bank.

“I don’t need to worry to so much anymore,” Holman says. “I’m real thankful for that.”

The $5,000,000 Jackpot is $20 ticket with a top prize of $5 million and thousands of other prizes ranging from $20 to $100,000.
