30th Tournament of Champions Ready To Tip

The Bass Pro Shops Tournament of Champions will tip off Thursday.
SPRINGFIELD, Mo--The future of college basketball will be on display over the next few days at JQH Arena.

It's the Bass Pro Shops Tournament of Champions and this year is the 30th anniversary of this premier event.

The T of C annually pits some of the best high school teams in the country against some of the best teams from the area.

Those out of state teams began arriving in Springfield Wednesday and worked out at JQH Arena.

This is Wesleyan Christian out of North Carolina, they're ranked 22nd in the country and will play White Station out of Memphis Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

The nation's number one and number three teams are also in town.

"I just think it's been an opportunity for kids," said tournament director Mark Fisher.  "Not just from Southwest Missouri, but from bringing kids in from Florida, to New York, to Texas to California.  It's not just about basketball.  You can tip a ball up in any gym around the country.  This is more about opportunity.  This is about opportunities and life memories and it doesn't always have to be about basketball.."

The first game Thursday at 5:00 p.m. has Willard against Paul VI from Virginia.

Then it's White Station and Wesleyan Christian.

Kickapoo will take on New York City's Christ the King at 8:00 p.m.

And the late game has number one Montverde from Florida against Village Christian from California at 10:30 p.m.
