MOUNTAIN HOME, Ark. – A rough ride on an ATV may have contributed to a spill that left behind evidence in cases against two rural Mountain Home residents arrested Monday on outstanding warrants for a drug offense and other charges.
Ben Gary Dacus, 29 and Kiana Shawntar Hays, 24, were booked into the Baxter County Detention Center after their arrests.
Warrants for the two were issued after Baxter County Sheriff’s Deputy Doug Meurer took a complaint report from a man who said he saw a man and woman riding an all-terrain vehicle in front of his home on County Road 625 when he saw a makeup case and a plastic bag fall from the ATV.
He told deputies he went to investigate and saw the bag held several more, smaller bags containing a white crystalline substance suspected to be a controlled substance, according to a release from the sheriff’s office.
While the caller was waiting on Meurer to arrive, the man who had ridden by on the ATV, later identified as Dacus, returned to the location, demanded the return of the articles and threatened and shoved the caller. He left the scene before the deputy arrived.
The substance in the bag was later determined to be approximately 2.4 grams of methamphetamine and the couple was identified as Dacus and Hays.
Dacus was charged with felony Possession of Methamphetamine with Purpose to Deliver and three misdemeanor charges of assault, criminal trespass and operating an ATV on a public roadway. He was arrested and released after posting $15,000 bond.
Hanys was charged with felony Possession of Methamphetamine with Purpose to Deliver and remains in the Baxter County Detention Center on $15,000 bond.
