SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Members of the community met Tuesday at Congressman Billy Long’s office to deliver a cease and desist order.

“With only two days before Congressman Long drives the United States into defaulting on its debts, we plan to deliver a cease and desist order to Rep. Billy Long demanding he stop his extreme politics, which are destroying the American Dream of prosperity for all,” says Matthew Patterson, executive director of Missouri ProVote in a statement. “Congressman Long said recently that people in the 7th District approve of his votes on the shutdown, SNAP, and the ACA, and we want to make sure he knows that’s just not true.”

According to the statement, the cease and desist order was delivered to Long’s office by constituents who planned to describe the harm to their families from the government shutdown and protest his part in the shutdown and debt stalemate.

Congressman Billy Long was not in town during the protest.
