City Utilities Unveils Plans for 40-Acre Solar Farm

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- CU says the Solar Photovoltaic Energy System will be complete by late spring 2014. It will be operated and maintained by Strata Solar, with energy being provided to CU through a power purchase agreement.
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- City Utilities has announced plans for a 40-acre, 5-megawatt solar farm in eastern Greene County.

In a news release Monday, CU says the Solar Photovoltaic Energy System will be complete by late spring 2014. It will be operated and maintained by Strata Solar, with energy being provided to CU through a power purchase agreement.

The power farm will work much like natural gas peaking turbines, and will provide power at peak times. It'll also help reduce the demand on other generation units.

CU says the 4.95 MW system will produce 9,606,000 kWh per year, enough to power about 875 homes in the Springfield area in one year. The project is part of a 25-year contract with Strata Solar.
