Christmas Comes Early for Elementary School Students

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Christmas may be two weeks away but don't tell that to students at three schools in Greene County.
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Christmas may be two weeks away but don't tell that to students at three schools in Greene County.

On Wednesday, James River Assembly handed out Christmas gifts to students at Schofield Elementary in Republic and Pershing and Westport Elementaries in Springfield.

Since 1999 church members have donated toys to be given to children at various local schools.

"I mean just the kids, the expression on their face when they get a gift, what a great opportunity for our community to see the sharing and caring from faith partners in the area,” says Gary Tew, the principal at Westport Elementary. “It's an exciting time."

Schools are selected based on the number of children who are enrolled in the free or reduced lunch program.
