Catholic Soccer Play in the Final Four

The Fighting Irish will play St. Pius X in the state semifinals.
SPRINGFIELD, Mo--The Springfield Catholic soccer team is back to its old tricks. The Fighting Irish are back in the final four.

Friday they'll play St. Pius X in the class one semifinals. The Irish are shooting for their third straight state championship. And Catholic has played in the championship match the last four seasons.

This year's Irish team is 23-5 and will take a six game winning streak into their match with St Pius. Catholic has only five seniors on the team, and this was suppose to be a rebuilding year.

"There's a lot of fresh faces.  And a lot of guys with chips on their shoulders as far as, hey we can do this too.  Mostly because we've had a lot of people approach us, especially at the beginning of the season that this was a rebuilding year.  We graduated eight seniors from last year's team.  And because of that there are lot of guys who have been told you can't do it without last year's class," said Irish soccer coach Tom Guinn.

"It's always in the back of our mind.  We can't do any better than last year, we can only tie.  But it would be a big deal especially in my senior year to win it all," said Irish senior Ryan Randell.
