Businesses Offer Ways to Recycle Real Christmas Trees

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- For some people, it's time to say goodbye to Christmas and get that real tree out of the house.
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- For some people, it's time to say goodbye to Christmas and get that real tree out of the house.

Two options can make that process simple for you. At Bass Pro, boy scouts are collecting trees every afternoon through New Year’s Day.

They ask for a $2 donation. The trees will be taken to area lakes for fish habitats and also used on some property for bunny habitats.

“Try to help the environment and that way we are basically recycling the trees,” says scout leader Al Schmidt. “And making good out of something we're going to throw away."

You can also have your Christmas tree mulched at Wickman Gardens. You can drop off your tree and then pick up some mulch for a donation to the kitchen. Wickman's is located on Fort Street in Springfield.

The City of Springfield is also lending a helping hand at the Yardwaste Recycling Center, which accepts Christmas trees year round.
