SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Many people took a detour out of their day Monday to offer up donations to help the Salvation Army meet its Tree of Lights campaign.  The 3-day Bucket Blitz continues today, with more live broadcasts by KOLR, KOZL, KWTO, KTXR and The Jock, in the parking lot of Battlefield Mall.

The goal of the Blitz is to encourage cash donations to support the Salvation Army's holiday and year-long programs.

December winter storms have put the Salvation Army about $40,000 behind in its annual fundraising program with the red kettles outside major retailers.
About $2,000 was raised Monday during the Bucket Blitz - but much more is needed.

"We raise these funds because each day there are families and children who need our feeding programs and emergency food pantry. We raise these funds because each day our shelter and housing programs are almost always at capacity," Major Norman Grainger, the Ozarks area coordinator for the Salvation Army, says. "We raise these funds because we need community support to help the thousands of Ozarks residents who turn to us everyday because they have absolutely nowhere else to go."

To help, all you have to do is drive by the live broadcast, set up in the southeast parking lot of the Battlefield Mall near where the Farmers Market is located (Battlefield and Glenstone) - and drop off your cash donation.  You don't even have to get out of your warm car.

Broadcasts begin during KOLR10 Daybreak from 5-7am Tuesday and Wednesday with KOLR10 Meteorologist Chris Smith. From 7-9am, the live broadcast on radio stations KTXR/KWTO/The Jock, will be aired live on KOZL. Starting at 9am, live updates will air each hour on KOLR and KOZL.  Ozarks Live will broadcast live from 4-5pm, and KOLR Meteorologist Jamie Warriner will deliver his weather forecasts live in the 5 and 6pm news.
