HARRISON, Ark. -- Sheriff’s deputies in Boone County, Arkansas are awaiting results of an autopsy on the body of a man found in a ditch on Crunkleton Road on Sunday afternoon.

The remains, which Sheriff Mike Moore said had apparently been in that location for a few days before being discovered, were sent to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for autopsy and identification, he said.

Moore said investigators believe they know the identity of the man and are working with the Newton County Sheriff’s Office and Arkansas State Police to confirm that identity and determine the cause of death.

The remains appear to be those of white male, Moore said.  It has not been determined whether  foul play was involved, he said, but the investigation is being handled as though it were a crime until investigators can establish otherwise.

Anyone with information about the body may give the information anonymously to the Boone County Sheriff’s Office by phone or through their website, boonesheriff.com. Inquiries or tips in this case should be directed to Captain Bob King, who is leading the investigation for the Sheriff’s Department.
