SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – After a strong community response to a Code Red alert for blood donations at Community Blood Center of the Ozarks, the blood supply alert has been downgraded to a Code Yellow for all blood types. However, donations are still needed.

“Although we are not yet back to normal inventory levels, the situation has improved enough to lift the emergency appeal,” CBCO Marketing Manager Chris Pilgrim said in a release. “All blood types are still at less than a two-day supply, so we’re asking eligible donors to give this week to help build the supply to optimum three-day levels.”

Most of the donations given last week are already on the shelves of local hospitals, according to Don Thomson, executive director of CBCO.

Those interested in donating blood must be at least 16 years of age, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health.

For more information or to locate a blood drive near you, visit the CBCO website or call 1-800-280-5337.
