Arkansas Off To Rutgers

The Razorbacks off to New Jersey to play the Knights.
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark--The Razorbacks will venture outside of the state of Arkansas for the first time this season Saturday.

Bret Bielema's Hogs are off to New Jersey to face the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.

The status of Arkansas quarterback Brandon Allen is still unknown.

He left Saturday's game in the second quarter with a bruised shoulder.

And as Mike Irwin reports, that's just one issue the Razorback offense will face.

Last Saturday for the first time this season, the Razorbacks faced a team that challenged their running game.

Not exactly good news as Arkansas gets ready to face one of the top run stop defenses in the country.

Jonathan Williams/Arkansas Running Back:"We were making some mistakes out there and we corrected it.  And when we watched film, we were making stupid mistakes that we shouldn't have made.  When we came out in the second half we didn't make those mistakes again.  The running game got better."

Arkansas' coaches say it's also helpful that Rutgers employees a lot of the same tactics that Southern Miss used to attack the Hogs ground game.

There are also plans to open the offense up this week regardless of who Arkansas' quarterback turns out to be.

But if it's A.J. Derby his receivers say the impression that he's limited as a passer is dead wrong.

Jim Chaney/Arkansas Offensive Coordinator:"He's really improved his throwing motion to be able to throw the ball more accurately than he ever has.  And I'm really happy for him because he's worked really hard."

There was no word on whether Brandon Allen did anything in Tuesday's practice.

But supposedly he was still wearing a shoulder brace earlier in the day on campus.
