MARION COUNTY, Ark. – An Arkansas man was arrested early Monday morning for first degree murder after he shot a man and left him bleeding in a ditch in front of the victim’s brother’s house.

According to Marion County Sheriff Roger Vickers, a 911 call came in Sunday, Nov. 17, around 7:30 p.m. from Zack Rogers, 38, of northern Marion County.  Rogers reported a truck had stopped in front of his house for a short time and made a commotion.

Upon further investigation, Rogers found a person lying in the ditch, bleeding and unresponsive.  Rogers discovered the person was his brother, Jody Rogers, 42, also of northern Marion County.

Jody was pronounced dead at the scene due to an apparent gunshot wound.

A short time later, information was received that pointed to a possible suspect, Joseph Saylors, 30, of Lead Hill in Boone County.

Officers from Boone County Sheriff’s Office, Marion County Sheriff’s Office, the Arkansas State Police and Arkansas Game and Fish responded to Saylor’s address in Lead Hill, where he was armed with several firearms and refusing to come out.

Saylors fired several rounds once the house was surrounded, according to Sheriff Vickers.

After several hours, officers introduced a flash bang and tear gas into the residence, forcing Saylors out onto the front porch where he was stunned by a nonlethal weapon and restrained.

Saylors was arrested at 2:15 a.m. for first degree murder with a $100,000 bond.

The incident is still under investigation with the possibility of additional charges pending by the Boone County Sheriff’s Office and Marion County.
