SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Efforts to feeding our hungry neighbors this holiday season kick into high gear this weekend, with the start of the annual Check Out Hunger campaign in area grocery stores.

The Ozarks Food Harvest program involves nearly 80 area grocers, who offer shoppers a scannable donation coupon to ad $1, $3, or $5 tax-free donation to their total grocery bill.  The donation then goes to Ozarks Food Harvest to help buy food for hungry families.

Area grocery stores that have the Check Out Hunger coupons are Akin's, Bistro Market, Country Mart, Dillons, Harter House, Hy-Vee, Murfin's Market, Price Cutter, Ramey, Save-A-Lot, Smitty's, Summer Fresh, Town & Country and Woods Supermarket.

The program runs November 15 through December 31.

Ozarks Food Harvest is the primary food bank that serves 200 area food pantries and emergency food sites in 28 counties in southwest Missouri.  About 170,000 people are fed each year through those pantries.

Also this season, KOLR10 and KOZL are helping by being a drop-off point for food donations for Ozarks Food Harvest.  You can bring your non-perishable food donation by our studios at 2650 E. Division, and drop them in a collection box through December 31.  Our offices are open Mon-Fri, 8am-5pm.
