WEST PLAINS, Mo. -- A company is expanding in West Plains and Friday they broke ground on a $1.4 million facility.

Governor Jay Nixon was at the announcement Friday at Air Medical Group Holdings. The new 40-thousand square foot facility is an air medical services provider.

It will consolidate three of the company's West Plains locations.

Nixon says the new development demonstrates the state's commitment to fiscal responsibility.

The mayor of West Plains tells KOLR10 it's a "banner day" for the city.

“It’s a significant day for us,” says Mayor Jack Pahlmann. “We're retaining jobs. And by the groundbreaking we have assured these jobs. In addition we will be building a dog gone good looking building on the highway. And hopefully that will encourage additional retail/companies to build and create their own jobs in West Plains."

The company currently employs more than 400 people.

It is the largest independent provider of air medical services in the U.S. and it responds to emergencies in more than 66 counties in Missouri.
