White Sox Draft Burger 11th Overall

SPRINGFIELD, Mo--Major League Baseball started it's three day, 40 round draft Monday night.

The first two rounds, and two compensation rounds were on tap Monday.

And Missouri State third baseman Jake Burger didn't have to wait long to hear his name called.

Burger and a number of his teammates were watching the draft in his apartment's game room which is within site of Hammons Field.

The Chicago White Sox pulled the trigger on the slugger, selecting him as the 11th pick in the first round.

Burger becomes the second highest draft pick in Missouri State baseball history.

In 2007 Ross Detwiler was the sixth pick overall.

Jake Burger belted 22 home runs this past season, which is seventh most in the country, he also drove in 65 runs and scored 69 runs.

Burger is the Valley's Player of the Year, a first team All-American, a Golden Spikes semifinalist and the first position player from St. Louis to be drafted in the first round since 1978.

"I grew up a White Sox fan.  So it's awesome that I have an opportunity to play for them.  There are no words.  I'm in a dream right now to be honest.  I told them look I'm a diehard White Sox fan and it would be awesome to play for you guys.  We have a connection and good chemistry," said Jake Burger.
