KANSAS CITY, Mo -- Police in Kansas City are investigating an apparent murder-suicide involving a player with the Kansas City Chiefs. CBS Sports is reporting that the shooter is 25-year-old linebacker Jovan Belcher.

CBS affiliate KCTV in Kansas reports police were first called to a house near East 54th Terrace where a shooting was reported.  A short time later, they were called to a Chiefs practice facility near Arrowhead stadium.

NFL.com quotes a police spokesperson as saying the shooting at the Arrowhead facility happened at 7:50 a.m.  She declined to identify the player.

Investigators believe the player shot and killed his girlfriend, then went to the practice facility where he turned the gun on himself, KCTV reports.

The Chiefs confirmed the shooting in a written statement, which said: "We can confirm that there was an incident at Arrowhead earlier this morning. We are cooperating with authorities in their investigation."
