MEMPHIS, Tenn.--After a winter full of negotiations and delays, the St. Louis Cardinals finally completed its purchase of the Memphis Redbirds.

The city of Memphis also bought the downtown stadium where the minor league franchise plays its games.

So the St. Louis Cardinals now own their Triple AAA franchise in Memphis, the Double AA team here in Springfield, the High A team in Palm Beach Florida and it's rookie league team in Jupiter.

The deal with Memphis includes a provision that calls for the Cardinals to have a long term lease at AutoZone Park.

The money paid for that lease will go to upgrading the facility with state of the art features for the fans.

The St. Louis Cardinals are supposed to play an exhibition game in Memphis Friday night before moving to Cincinnati where they'll open the new season Monday afternoon.
