SPRINGFIELD, Mo.--The Springfield Cardinals will open up their tenth season of minor league baseball Thursday night at Hammons Field against San Antonio.

13 baby birds played here last year, but there are some Double AA rookies.

One of those new faces is at third base.

The Cardinals picked Patrick Wisdom in the first round supplemental draft of 2012.

And the 22-year old from just north of San Diego has climbed quickly through the system.

He hit 21 homers with 105 RBI at both Peoria and Palm Beach last summer.

Wisdom spent spring training with the big league Cards and says he's ready for the Texas League.

"I heard that it's a great league to hit in so I'm excited about that," said Patrick Wisdom.  "I hear great things about this league.  I'm not too intimidated.  I just want to go out there and try to learn as much as I can and get better every day.  That's the goal.  I'm really excited to be here and hopefully we can do something special with the Springfield Cardinals.."

"He went to big league camp and took advantage of that time with that staff and those players around him.  You see him grow and understand and evolve in his game.  He's a talented young man," said Springfield manager Mike Shildt.
