COLUMBIA, Mo--Sunday, Mizzou's All-American defensive lineman told ESPN's Outside the Lines that he is gay during an interview with Chris Connlley.

Sam was also the AP SEC Defensive Player of the Year and helped lead Mizzou to a Cotton Bowl Championship.

The former Tiger football player is entering the NFL draft this May and if and when he is drafted he would become the first openly gay player in the history of the NFL.

"I came to tell the world that I am an openly proud gay man..it's a load off my chest. I told my teammates this past August, I came out to my teammates. They took it great. They rallied around me, the supported me," said Michael Sam.
