The Cards will try to snap a four game losing streak against the Missions.
One bright spot for 1-5 Springfield was the play of Aledmys Diaz.
The Cuban 23 year old is hitting .500, 7-14 in his three starts.
Remember he hasn't played pro ball in 18 months.
Tuesday, he took the field for the first time in his Cardinals career playing shortstop.
And he went 4-5 with three runs batted in, including the hit that tied up the game in the bottom of the ninth.
His manager and teammates were impressed.
"He's a great player. And he knows what he has to do to succeed," said Springfield first baseman Jonathan Rodriguez. "He's getting acclimated to the states and more into this game at Double AA. He's going to succeed. He's a great player and works hard."
"Obviously you can see the ability on the field. He comes right at you," said Springfield manager Mike Shildt. "And he showed some range and made some plays. He had good at bats, tough at bats. He doubled down the line, the base hit there to tie the game in the ninth. So a lot of positive things from Diaz."
