SPRINGFIELD, Mo--The Springfield Cardinals finished up their series with Midland Sunday afternoon at Hammons Field.

And a touching moment to start the game. Sergeant Billy Barch is home from Afghanistan and hugged by his family.

Now to the game, in the first Midlands Nate Long gets Charlie Tilson on the strike out looking. Score 0-0.

But Cody Stanley says I got your back. Later, in the inning pops a solo homer to right. It's 1-0 Cards.

In the second Johnathon Cornelious gets Keith Mathes to whiff. Cards still up 1-0.

Later in two. Get the gloves ready fans lots of homers today. Jeremy Barfield goes yard. That ties the game at 1.

Third inning its Curt Smiths turn. And he cranks this 2 run shot to left. Springfield goes one to win this one 5-1.


The St. Louis Cardinals have won 3 of their last four games heading into their Sunday afternoon game with the Padres.
The Cards looking to win the series with a win Sunday.

In the first inning, the Cards come out strong.
Peter Bourjous gets the two out base hit.
Matt Adams scores and the Cards lead, 3-0.

Still in the first, Tony Cruz also with the 2-out single.
John Jay scores it's 4-0 st. Louis.

In the second inning it was a huge day for Matt Carpenter cranks a home run off the hanging curve.
The Red Birds up, 5-0.

In the 6th more from Carp hits a double to center.
Bourjous and Cruz score to make it 7-4.
Carp was 3-4 and a triple away from the cycle.

Things got interesting in the 9th. Abraham Almonte with 2 run single. And it's now 7-6.

But Seth Maness would shut the door. Gets the pop out to end the game.
Cards win it 7-6. Adam Wainwright gets win number 15.


Despite losing a game in the standings Saturday night the Kansas City Royals still remained a half game up on Detroit going into their game with the twins on Sunday.

The Royals hoping to continue their hot streak of late.

Twins take an early lead though in the first.
Kennys Vargas with the base knock.
Danny Santana scores - it's 1-0, Minnesota.

KC would absolutely explode in the second.
Alcides Escobar singles. 2 runs score on the play. KC  had 7 in the inning.

To the bottom of the second, Jeremy Guthrie strikes out Chris Parmalee.
Throws it around to Moose. It's still 7-1.

There were two rain delays in the game. After the break, in the 5th inning, Alex Gordon crushes a 2 run home run.
KC up 9-2 at this point. .

To the 9th, Josh Willingham with what we call a triple decker.
It's Willingham's first home run with the Royals.
Kansas City cruises to a 12-6 victory.
