COLUMBIA, Mo--Marshfield going for their first third place trophy since 2002 against 21-9 Benton.

First half action, the Lady Jay's Allison VanDiggelen gets the steal and takes it the other way for the score, Marshfield up 12-8.

Later the Cardinals Morgan Newman sees the space and does the damage, 15-11 Lady Jays lead.

Then Marshfield's Lauren Aldridge finds some room to work and the basket, Lady Jays up 21-16.

In the second half, Peyton Greenlee hits the triple from Marshfield, they lead 31-19.

Then the Cardinals Lindsey Dulan comes right back with the jumper to cut the lead to ten.

But senior Lauren Aldridge gets two of her 13 points on the day Marshfield wins 42-33.

Aldridge will play for Kansas next year, but in her final game as a Lady Jay she led Marshfield to its first third place finish at state since 2002.

"This is only the most fitting ending I can think for these three senior's careers is to end on a win," said Marshfield coach Shelly Jones.  "I was looking at stats to try to make sense of it.  Nothing makes sense for them to be able to enjoy a win the very last time they're on the floor."

"I was pretty surreal to be in that place," said Marshfield senior Lauren Aldridge.  "I can't think of a better group to end it with.  If we were going to go to the final four this is the group I would have taken."
