SPRINGFIELD, Mo--Summer time is sports camp time around the Ozarks.

And this week a couple of former Missouri State basketball players are giving back to their community.

In our Bear Nation report, Deven Mitchell and Anthony Shavies are conducting their basketball camp.

It's the second year for this camp that's being held at the Courts on East Kearney.

Both Shavies and Mitchell played for the Bears starting in 2004.

And both have played professionally in Europe for years.

But in the summer they return to the Ozarks to visit friends and conduct these camps.

"We've been pretty fortunate, we've had good basketball players and good people," said Anthony Shavies who played in Austria.  "And that means a lot.  We have a good group of guys who are still around here giving their time and effort to Springfield basketball.."

"Everything is about giving back to the kids. The fact that we can do it here in my hometown," said Deven Mitchell who played in France.  "I grew up watching older people.  And now they look up to us now.  It's a good feeling.  It's a blessing to be able to come back and do something like this."
