SPRINGFIELD, Mo--The Springfield Cardinals returned to Hammons Field to open up a six game homestand against the south division. In town the Corpus Christi Hooks, the AA affiliate of the Houston Astros.
The Cards are 3-3 in the second half of the season.
Sam Gaviglio on the hill and he gets out of first inning trouble by striking out Jio Mier swinging.
Then in the second, with two on, Telvin Nash takes this deep to left, but David Popikns makes the catch at the fence to end the threat.
In the 3rd Jonathon Meyer hits one to Patrick Wisdom at third, the Cards Jonathon Rodriguez with the scoop at first, still scoreless.
In the top of the 4th, the Hooks David Rollins strikes out Popkins swinging.    
Springfield finally gets on the board in the fifth, Mike O'Neill singles up the middle, Breyvic Valera and David Popkins score it's 2-0.
The Hooks would go on to win this one 7-4.


The St. Louis Cardinals wrapped up their series at Colorado yesterday.
And pitcher Marco Gonzales made his major league debut for St. Louis.
Gonzales was here in Springfield last week and got promoted straight from double a to the bigs on Monday.
Colorado native Marco Gonzales strikes out Drew Stubbs looking for his first K in the big leagues.
Then the 22 year old strikes out Troy Tulowitzki swinging to end the first.
In Gonzales' first at bat in the third he would double to left center.
And Matt Holliday singles to left, Gonzales scores; it's 1-nothing.
But Colorado would get to the kid in the fourth, Drew Stubbs takes this deep to left, a solo shot; it's 1-1.
The rockies led 5-2 in the fifth when Matt Adams takes this deep to left, it's gone a two run shot to make it 5-4.
Marco Gonzales goes five innings giving up five runs on seven hits.
His teammates take the lead in the eighth on this Matt Carpenter single that scores Daniel Descalso and the cards win 9-6.


The Kansas City Royals wrapped up theier series with the Dodgers last night at The K.
And Kansas City would get on the board in the bottom of the first. Lorenzo Cain leads off the game with a drive to left.  After three strikeouts Tuesday night,  he opens the game with a homer, making it 1-nothing, Royals.
The Dodgers tie it up in the second, when Matt Kemp takes this deep to right center, over the boards and gone, a solo shot it's 1-1.
Los Angeles led 3-1 in the fourth when Mike Mustakas singles to left, Aalex Gordon rounds third and heads home, he slides across safely; it's 3-2.
But the Dodgers hold on and win 5-4.
