SPRINGFIELD, Mo--The Springfield Cardinals continued their homestand Thursday night against Northwest Arkansas.

And the Cards looking for their fourth straight victory.

And Springfield's wins have been low scoring affairs, Thursday night no different early.

Kurt Heyer on the hill for Springfield, and he strikes out Lane Adams to start the game.

The Cards hitting into some bad luck, Curt Smith with this pop up, and Mark Threlkeld makes the over the head sliding catch in foul territory.

In the second, the Naturals load the bases, and Sam Selman walks Travis Tartamella and David Popkins scores it's 1-nothing Cards.

Springfield tries to get more in the third, Curt Smith again, this time a drive to left, but the Naturals Ethan Chapman makes the catch and slams into the wall.

Northwest Arkansas takes the lead in the sixth, two on and Orlando Calixte grounds this up the middle, Jacob Wilson throws home, but it's up the line, and into the runner, the error allows Chapman and Adams to score 2-1 Naturals.

And Northwest Arkansas snaps the Cards winning streak 3-2.


SPRINGFIELD, Mo--The St. Louis Cardinals know all about Missouri State baseball.

Their Double AA franchise shares a stadium with the Bears, and Mike Matheny's son plays for Missouri State.

In our Bear Nation report, another Bear has become a Cardinal Thursday.

The St. Louis Cardinals reached contract terms with right handed pitcher Cody Schumacher.

Schumacher becomes the 129th Bear to sign a professional contract.

He's following in the footsteps of Nick Petree.

Like the former Bear, Schumacher will report to the Cardinals short season single a team in State College Pennsylvania.

The senior led the Bears with a 6-2 record with a 2.45 earned run average.

Schumacher won this years Dave Dickensheet award at Missouri State as the team's most outstanding pitcher.
