Lady Bears Start Senior Weekend on Right Foot

SPRINGFIELD, Mo -- The Missouri State Lady Bears had just 2 home games remaining in the regular season heading into tonight.

Seniors Onye Osemenam, Rachel Swartz, and Lexi Hughes looked to close out their careers on a winning note at JQH Arena. Tonight they hosted Illinois State. The Sycamores, coming in with a 6-8 Valley record.

In the 1st, the senior, Lexi Hughes get us started. That made it 8-3 Lady Bears.

Later, Hughes to sophomore, Danielle Gitzen who knocks down the bucket. Lady Bears still leading.

They would go into halftime with the lead, thanks to Liza Fruendt. She led with 10 points at the break.

Down the stretch, Lexi Hughes doing it all. From the top of the key, to down in the paint. Lexi  kicking off senior weekend on the right foot, as the Lady Bears win, a physical game.... 73-63.

"I think we have come to expect that when we play Indiana State. It's been physical every time since I've been here. I wrote on the board that you have to be tough, and I think they understand that. That's why they are good defensively. We have played that, seen that, and I'm hopeful that having success in a physical game will give us some confidence," said Kellie Harper.
