Jordan Martin: Making Strides at Missouri State

SPRINGFIELD, Mo -- 3 Missouri State Bears will celebrate senior day at JQH on Saturday, as they host Wichita State on national television. Jordan Martin, a forward from St. Louis, has made some of his biggest strides here at Missouri State.

"It's funny because you get new guys coming in. Some of those JuCo kids. You can't help but think, "Man, what a headache!" explained Tyler McCullough.

Senior Tyler McCullough has spent the last 4 years as the Bears Welcome Wagon.

"They're not so crazy as when you first meet them," said McCullough.

It's fair to say that this one, junior college transfer Jordan Martin, might have been his favorite.

"J-Mar, I think it took me 4 days to say I love this kid. We play the same position, but I am his biggest fan. I absolutely adore him and what he brings to the team," said McCullough.

For Jordan, team bonding trips have made all the difference.

"When we went to the Bahamas. That is what has stuck out the most to me," said Martin. "I can really lean on people like Tyler. I can talk to him in practice because he sees different things."

In just 2 short years after transferring from John A Logan College in Carterville, Illinois, Jordan has played in 51 games, including 9 starts. 6 of those have come his senior year, helping the Bears go 4-2.

"I have no regrets in life. I wouldn't trade anything," said Jordan Martin. "I am blessed and I am proud of the decision I made. I have made my biggest strides here at Missouri State. I feel like in JuCo, things got handed to you, but here I have grown up a lot."

Games where #0's stats stick out is where his defense has shined. Against Loyola at the Q, he was on the court for 18 minutes, and contributed a block and 2 steals in the Bears overtime win.

Games like that though, have no meaning for the St. Louis native. He would rather, his adopted family, steal the spotlight.

"When we are all clicking, it feels good. I dont have to be on. When we are all clicking, I am happy," said Martin.

The Bears will tip off against Bradley tomorrow night at 7pm.
