Kickapoo To Host State Quarterfinal

SPRINGFIELD, Mo--A handful of ozark area high school football teams are still alive in the race for a state championship.

The Kickapoo Chiefs are one of those who will host a state quarterfinal game Saturday afternoon.

Last night, Joel Well's Kickapoo Chiefs staged a big second half scoring outburst and beat Nixa 45-14 to run its record to 12-0.   

Kickapoo quarterback Anthony Cooper threw three touchdown passes and ran for another in the win.

The Chiefs will play top ranked Lee's Summit West Saturday afternoon at Pottenger Stadium.

"They're very good and have a tradition rich program," said Kickapoo coach Joel Wells.  "They're ranked number one in the state and we'll have to play our best football to win.  It's a huge win for our program and a huge win for our kids.  They really prepared well all year long and deserved to win tonight.."

Here are some notable quarterfinal games saturday kicking off at 1:30.

There's the Kickapoo game.

Bolivar will host Liberty North.

Moutain View Liberty will host two time defending state champ Lamar.

And Marionville will host Valle Catholic out of St. Genevieve.
