SPRINGFIELD, Mo--Springfield Catholic is looking for a new football coach.

This after Bobby Cornelison announced his resignation.

Coach C is stepping down after 19 years on the Fighting Irish sideline.

He'll remain at Springfield Catholic as the school's track coach and teach.

Cornelison won 143 games in his 19 seasons at Catholic, including the 1997 Class 2 state championship.

This past season's team was 5-6.

The Irish took second once, and four of Coach C's teams made it to the state semifinals.

Cornelison would like to take a break and possibly return to football later.

"I've been very blessed.  I've had great kids to work with.  And I've had great assistant coaches," said Bobby Cornelison.  "I know that for awhile you couldn't find a greater staff at any level.  I kind of think little things bothered me more than they used to.  I was kind of grumpier with officials this year.  So it's not schemes or things like that.  If you do this long enough it wears on you.  There are long hours and it's hard work.  Maybe I just need to catch my breath a little bit."
