The Marionville Comets are finally back to where they want to be. 10-2 and District Champions. Largely in part to their new head coach Jamie LaSalle.
"The past 3 years we have had a lot of potential we couldn't do anything. We had a lack of leadership. This year is a real special season so far,"
said Comets Senior Ryan White Widereceiver/Free Safety.
Winning is nothing new for Coach LaSalle, when he was at Greenfield he went to the playoffs 5 of 7 years and was a 3 time District Champion. And he looks to bring that momentum here to Marionville.
"I used to coach at Miller as an assistant coach and my dad was head coach there and they won a state championship in '94. So i had little experience with that as well," said Coach Jamie LaSalle.
Coach LaSalle is trying to get his family on the field a state title, which hasn't been done in Marionville since 2003.
"All these kids grew up they were watching those '03 teams, '04 teams, '05, '06. They wanted to get back to that and they put in the work. They put in the time. They've bought into what we are doing this season," said Coach LaSalle.
"We are more of a team this year, last year we were to much of individuals and trying to be different groups. And this year we are all together," said Comets Senior Running Back/Defensive Back Seth Smith.
The Comets senior leadership led them to a 28-8 victory over Jasper. Up next Valle Catholic.
"You get to this level, if you're going to be a state champion you are going to have to beat the best and we think they are one of the top two teams in the state. But we are going to go in there Saturday and give it everything we've got," said Coach LaSalle.
"You don't play to lose you play to win. That's what we are going to do. We are not going to play to not get beat. We are going to play to win," said White.
With the goal of a state title the comets are taking it one game at a time.
