The iconic downtown Springfield landmark is celebrating it's tenth birthday Wednesday night.
And it seems appropriate that there is not a game scheduled, the old ballyard needs its rest.
It will be very busy starting Thursday night when the Springfield Cardinals open the 2014 Texas League season.
It was ten years ago Wednesday night, April 2nd, 2004 when the gates swung open at Hammons Field for the first time.
Missouri State hosted Southern Illinois before more than 9-thousand fans.
John Q. Hammons, the man who built the stadium threw out the first pitch.
It was a year later that a Texas League franchise moved to Springfield.
That was the Springfield Cardinals.
There have been a few cosmetic changes since then, but Hammons Field is pretty much what it looked like a decade ago.
