SPRINGFIELD, Mo--Saturday, the Drury men's basketball team looked to defend their National Championship in the opening round of the Midwest Regional. Where the Panthers hosted GLVC rivals Wisconsin-Parkside.

Drury beat the Rangers in the regular season on a last second shot 54-52.

The Rangers Jimmy Gavin looking, looking, pivots and finds the basket for a 17-10 Parkside lead.

Before the half, Panthers Ian Carter gets the steal and takes it the other way for the two handed flush. Drury up 31-26.

Second half, Drury goes on a run as Mike Nwelue puts drury up 41-29.

Rangers hanging around though fast break up to Andy Mazurczak with the easy lay in makes it an eleven point game.

Drury gets it to Lonie Boga who drives to the rack for the two points.  51-37 Drury up.

The Rangers would go to their big man though, Zygimantas Riauka to make it a 55-50 point game.

The Panthers though would find a way to pull this one out. They win 69-64 and play Sunday at 8:30 PM.

"I thought the game changed in the first half because Ben Fisher went in, his effort and hustle, he got his hands on some stuff and I think it carried over. Ian Carter contributed with some deflections and we gots some easy baskets off turnovers and kind of got our mojo going," said Panthers coach Steve Hesser.
