SPRINGFIELD, Mo--The Missouri State Bears opened up a weekend Valley homestand Friday night against Southern Illinois.

In our bear nation report tonight, missouri state will be trying to build some momentum coming into the series winners of two of its last three games.

Cody schumacher gets the start tonight for the bears, he's trying to go 5-and-one on the season.

And his teammates would give him the early lead, first inning and Tate Matheny bunts this down the third baseline, the throw to first is off the first baseman's glove, that allows Matt Dezort to score it's 1-nothing Bears.

The Salukis Sam Coonrod gets out of that first inning trouble by striking out Spencer Johnson swinging to end the inning.

Bottom of the second, the Bears get another run, Patrick Drake takes this deep to left, over the outfielder's head and off the fence, Eric Cheray scores it's 2-nothing.

But Southern Illinois would rally, top of the fourth, a man at third, Parker Osborne lifts this fly ball to right, Ryan Casillas tags and heads home, play at the plate, he's safe, it's 2-1.

Later in that inning Ryan Rosthenhausler singles to center, that scores another run it's 2-2.

But Missouri State bounces back and wins game one 8-3.
