(St. Louis, MO)--How would you feel if the next manager of the St. Louis Cardinals was an iconic player for the Cubs, or beat the Cardinals for the 2004 World Championship?

Both of those things could happen as the Cardinals begin interviewing candidates to replace Tony La Russa.

One of those interviewing is former Cub Ryne Sandberg who is the Triple AAA skipper for the Phillies.

Another candidate is former Boston Red Sox skipper Terry Francona.

Francona managed the Red Sox to two world championships, beating the Cards in '04 and the Rockies in '07.

His former general manager in Boston Theo Epstein could be looking at him as well for the vacant Cubs job.

According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Francona is the only candidate that has major league managerial experience.

Other reported candidates are Cards third base coach and former player Jose Oquendo.

Also getting an interview is former Springfield Cardinal and current Memphis skipper Chris "The Hammer" Maloney.

Former players Mike Matheny and Joe McEwing will be interviewed as well.

Cards general manager John Mozeliak says he wants to have a new manager before Thanksgiving.
