PITTSBURHG, Pe--The St. Louis Cardinals and Pittsburgh Pirates got out to a late start in their series opener due to weather Friday. Heading into the game the Cardinals and the Pirates were tied at the top of the National League Central with a 2-1 record.

Former Springfield Cardinal Shelby Miller with the start.

Bottom of the second Pedro Alverez up to bat and good bye! Solo home run. Puts Pittsburgh up 1-0.

Miller getting some help from the defense in the 3rd. Matt Carpenter my goodness! The diving snag at third makes the play.

In the bottom of the fourth and yeah that guy again. Alvarez another solo homer. That makes it 2-0 Pirates.

Carpenter doing it the field and now with the bat. Two run home run makes it 3-2 Pirates.

But in the eight Andrew McCutchen would hit a stand up tripple. Two runs would score. As the Pirates crush the Cards 12-2.

Cards fall to 2-2. Saturday Joe Kelley is on the mound against the Pirates at 6:05.
