Cardinals Clobber Travelers

Springfield tallies 18 runs Saturday

Springfield, Mo. - The Springfield Cardinals tallied 17 hits in a relentless offensive effort Saturday at Hammons Field, crushing the Arkansas Travelers by a score of 18-1.

Adolis Garcia put the Cardinals on the board with a 2-run double in the first inning, one of five run-scoring two-base hits.

Anthony Garcia padded the Springfield lead with home runs in the fourth and eighth innings. He is now second on the team with eight this season.

Five Cardinals finished the game with at least three RBI.

All-Star pitcher Dakota Hudson (W, 5-3) allowed one run on six hits in seven innings, striking out six and lowering his ERA to 2.95.

Despite Saturday's win, Springfield (34-34) misses out on the first-half North Division title and playoff spot due to Northwest Arkansas' victory at Tulsa. The season-long 13-game homestand continues Sunday at 4 pm against the Tulsa Drillers.
