Bears Say They'll Be Back In NCAA's

FT. WORTH, Tex--Missouri State third baseman Jake Burger is expected to go in the first round of Monday night's Major League Baseball draft.

In our Bear Nation report, Burger's poised to become the sixth Bear to become a first round draft pick.

In his three years at Missouri State, the Bears have won 130 games.

And as KOLR 10's Megan Rice reports, his Bears career ended in Fort Worth Sunday night.

It was a weekend that could have been for Missouri State ... a couple of different pitches.

A couple of more hits and it might have been the Bears dog piling their way to Omaha.

"We grew up playing against Brian Howard in St. Louis. He has always been a competitor and a battler. So you have to give a lot of respect and props to him. Yesterday their pitchers did a good job as well. That's baseball,"  said Bears third baseman Jake Burger.

Despite being swept by TCU, who is on their way to their fourth straight college world Series appearance, the Missouri State Bears should hold their heads high after making their second super regional appearance in three years.

"What we have done the past three years. No other three year stretch has been accomplished at this school," said Bears first baseman Justin Paulsen.

The Bears will graduate seven seniors and one draft bound junior in Jake Burger, but the team is confident the program has never been in a better place.

"I think it is in good shape because of the quality of people, meaning my assistant coaches, operation director, and graduate assistants and that's what it takes," said Bears coach Keith Guttin.

"It's in good hands as long as coach Guttin, coach Thompson and coach Evans are in charge. I think we have a lot of good young players and it's their turn and that's how it goes," said Burger

"We have left the program in a good state and we've taught the younger guys how to win. Hopefully they take that with them in the next coming years and they are in a super regional again and win that super regional," said Paulsen.

With the Bears Megan Rice KOLR 10 sports Ozarks first.
