"We talk about it in Spring Training," he said. "I think it's good for our young players to hear how our veterans go about it, and they set the tempo. They set the tone."
This playoff roster is stocked with former Springfield Cardinals, but nowhere is it more evident than here in the bullpen. Six of the arms are rookies. Heck, Kevin Siegrist and Carlos Martinez started this season in Springfield.
"Our minor league coaches and staff and rovers have done a terrific job of getting these guys ready and preparing them to be an impact," Matheny said. "Not just come up here and serve some time and fill in for a while, but how to contribute."
Before today's game Mike Matheny named another Springfield Cardinal Joe Kelly as game three starter. That game will be in Pittsburgh. It shows his confidence in Kelly. It also shows this organization's confidence in its Double-A affiliate and how important it is in October.
