High Demand Creates Frozen Black Market

Proving parents will go to any lengths to bring Elsa and Anna home, a “black market” of sorts has sprung up around Frozen and its collectibles due to the film’s wild popularity. As of this writing, the dresses are listing for upwards of $180 dollars on sites like EBay. Disney itself is even recommending you order the dresses 6-8 weeks ahead of time to “avoid disappointing the little ones” on your magical Disney park visit.

Big Picture

User generated markets are something we’ve seen develop out of people’s ability to turn anything into a collectible. Using EBay as their main platform, many people have been able to turn the website into their main source of income by becoming early adopters and creating demand by cornering the market on things. Think of it as a stock market for products instead of intangible transactions.
