SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- A judge Wednesday pushed back the preliminary hearing date for Craig Wood, the man accused of the abduction and murder of 10-year old Hailey Owen.
KOLR10's Brett Martin will have a live report from the courthouse on KOLR10 News at 11a.

Wood made his first court appearance on the charges, along with his defense attorney who is a member of the Capital Defense Team within the Missouri Public Defender's office.

Judge Mark Powell set Wood's preliminary hearing date for April 24.  It had been scheduled for April 2, but was moved at the request of prosecutors because of the unavailability of some witnesses.

Wood was arrested just hours after Hailey Owens was grabbed off the street near her home on February 18.  Hailey's body was discovered in the basement of the house where Wood was living.

He appeared in court Wednesday in street clothes and unshackled.  His formerly long hair had been cut short and his beard was shaved off. During the entire 35 minute hearing, Wood showed very little emotion.

Capitol defense attorney Patrick Berrigan argued several motion, including how Wood will appear in court.
Judge Powell agreed to allow Wood in plain clothes and unshackled. He says this case will be treated like any other case.

The judge also discussed motions about witness availability.
Greene County Prosecutor Dan Patterson asked for continuance from the originally scheduled preliminary hearing on April 2.
He says the medical examiner, a key witness, can not attend.

Berrigan also argued the use of cameras in the courtroom.
He says being a high profile case the use of TV cameras in the preliminary hearing could influence potential jurors.

He presented more than 90 document showing media coverage of the abduction and murder.
Powell said he would take the motion under consideration and rule in the future.
