Winter Weather: Northeastern States Blanketed with Snow

NEW YORK -- It's the first real taste of winter.

We're talking snow in states like Texas, Georgia, the Carolinas, and up through the northeast.

It's causing problems in cities and towns down south, where snowfall is unusual, especially before the holidays.

In one suburb of Atlanta, 8 inches came down. Hartsfield-Jackson Airport reported at least 375 cancellations. Delayed travelers were seen sleeping on the airport floor.

"We have a winter wonderland here in Asheville, North Carolina."

It's pretty but dangerous. Thousands are without power in North Carolina. Crews worked to clear ice and tree branches off power lines in order to get the lights and heat back on.

"In New York City, the snow started coming down early this morning. It's slick on the sidewalks and the roads," Laura Podesta, in New York, New York, said.

"I definitely did some shopping for this. Bought winter boots and a coat," Anabelle Hernandez, of New York, said.

In Philadelphia, people tailgating before the Army vs. Navy game had some fun in the chilly weather.

"Oh I just love the first snow of the year it's always fun to get out and walk around."

And in our nation's capital, a light dusting didn't stop people from heading outdoors to exercise and shop for the holiday season.
