Missouri counties under this watch include: Christian-Douglas-Howell-Shannon-Mcdonald-Barry-Stone-Taney-Ozark-Oregon.
The first winter storm of the season will affect the Missouri Ozarks and southeast Kansas on Thursday and Friday. Precipitation will likely begin as a mix of freezing rain and sleet over southern Missouri Thursday before changing over to all snow late Thursday into Thursday evening.
It is the mix of ice and snow accumulations which will create the most impact across the area which will mainly occur across far southern Missouri with this storm system. Freezing rain totals of a tenth to two tenths of an inch will be possible mainly south of a Salem to Cassville line...With areas north of the line not expected to receive much in the way of freezing rain.
Three to four inches of snow is expected to fall on top of the area which also receives the freezing rain. And it is the combination of the snow and ice which will cause the most impact and is the reason for the winter storm watch.
After the precipitation changes to all snow Thursday night, the snow will likely linger through the day on Friday.
