WEST PLAINS, Mo. -- The City of West Plains has once again been named a “top city”, this time in the state of Missouri.

The list, created by Cities Journal and released on March 13, names what they consider the top small cities in the country, with each state getting their own list. West Plains was ranked the #2 small city in Missouri, behind Columbia.

The site lists the city’s contribution to music and sports, its rich history, and the Old Time Music Ozark Heritage Festival as reasons for West Plains appearing on the list.

Nixa is also ranked among the state's best small towns in the Cities Journal rankings.  Having one of the best public school systems in the state, growing industry and employment opportunities in the area, and is considered the best town for young families.

Other entries on the list include several towns in the St. Louis area including Chesterfield, Clayton Kirkwood, Florissant, and St. Joseph.
