UPDATE: Assault Suspect in Custody, Victim in Stable Condition

GREENE COUNTY, Mo. -- The Greene County Sheriff's Office says a suspect is in custody for an assault Wednesday afternoon on W. Vincent St. 

According to a statement, the suspect is a 36-year-old Springfield man, who has been taken to the Greene County Jail with pending formal charges.

The victim in the incident sustained life-threatening injuries and multiple stab wounds.  He has since undergone surgery and is now in stable condition in the hospital.

On Wednesday afternoon, just after 4 p.m., deputies were sent to an area in the 2500 block of W. Vincent St. after a citizen called 911 to report an injured man.

When deputies arrived, they found a 25-year-old Springfield man visibly injured.  He was immediately transported to a local hospital for surgery.

After an initial investigation, deputies determined the victim and the suspect knew each other, but they do not know the motive for the assault at this time.

An investigation is ongoing. 

The suspect's name has been withheld pending formal charges filed by the Greene County Prosecutor's Office.


GREENE COUNTY, Mo. – The Greene County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a possible stabbing incident in the 2500 block of W. Vincent St., just outside Springfield limits.

According to a tweet from Greene County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO), a man was transported to a local hospital with possible stab wounds, but the severity of his injuries is unknown.  The victim was later brought into surgery for his injuries.

Lt. Jeremy Lynn, with GCSO, says the man is believed to be in his 20’s or 30’s. He was assaulted and a resident in the area called 911.

Lynn says two residences at the corner of Vincent and Leroy are being investigated and residents are being kept outside the homes.

There are no suspects at this time.  Police say they are treating the investigation as an assault with a weapon.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
