Traveling Moms Get New Nursing Station at Local Airport

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Good news for traveling moms: There's now a place to nurse or pump in private at the Springfield-Branson National Airport.

A nursing suite was unveiled today a first of its kind in southwest Missouri.

The pod is big enough for mom and baby to comfortably nurse.

It also has space for a stroller, luggage, and other family members.

While the airport has had family restrooms for several years, it received complaints from mothers that a bathroom is not an appropriate place for feeding and expressing.

"We've fed him in the bathrooms, leaning against the wall, squatting down, or in the car," said Hannah Cook, a nursing mother.

"You just have to find different places and be creative, and really I wish, you know, in the community, we would see the value of breastfeeding and make it just more the normal for everyone and just make it available at places like this," said Dr. Chan Reyes, of the Jordan Valley Community Health Center.

The suite also has USB and electrical outlets, counters, bench seating and a mirror.
