SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The tooth fairy made some special stops at a couple of Springfield elementary schools Friday afternoon.

It was part of Delta Dental’s Land of Smiles Program. Students at Holland Elementary and St. Joseph Catholic Academy participated in the program.

The "tooth wizard" and "tooth fairy" characters helped teach children about the importance of good oral hygiene.

"This was a fantastic little program that we had today,” says Bonnie Johnson, principal at St. Joseph Elementary. “There was a lot of energy here and the kids were very involved and engaged in the learning and I thought that was great because when they're engaged they're going to learn and they're going to take it to heart."

Land of Smiles has been touring schools for over a decade now. Over 65,000 students in 320 schools in Missouri will participate before the end of the school year.
