The News-Leader's Answer Man: Ticket Prices at Wonders of Wildlife

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- We have been working on a story about the Wonders of Wildlife Museum,  set to open Friday, September 22nd.  Reaction to announced ticket prices has been strong.

This is a story being worked on by the News-Leader's Wes Johnson, and it is in our paper today.
We have also heard quite a few comments on this story regarding prices and general responses about the museum itself.

Wes' article:

According to a WOW news release, conservation leaders, public officials and significant donors will get a preview tour of the museum and aquarium on Sept. 21, which WOW had previously listed as its opening date.

For the general public, tickets will be sold on a timed-entry basis to prevent large backlogs of visitors. Guests are strongly encouraged to purchase general admission tickets online at www.wondersofwildlife.org, where visitors will be prompted to select and reserve a specific arrival time.

All times are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

WOW is selling tickets just for the aquarium, tickets just for the wildlife galleries, or a combo ticket that gets a visitor into both venues.ofWildlife National Museum and Aquarium

For adults, a combo ticket is $39.95. To view the aquarium the ticket is $29.95 and to just view the wildlife galleries the ticket is $14.95.

Children under 4 are free.

A combo ticket for children ages 4-11 is $23.95. For just the aquarium, the ticket is $19.95 and for just the wildlife gallery the ticket is $9.95.

Visitors 65 and older, active-duty military, and veterans get a 10 percent discount on any ticket.

WOW is also selling three levels of memberships that allow unlimited visits to the facility. An individual annual membership costs $95; a family membership (two adults plus children or grandchildren under 18) is priced at $250.

A $300 Conservation Champion Membership can be bought which permits unlimited entry for two adults, children or grandchildren under age   18 and two transferable guest cards for family and friends.

According to the news release, the museum and aquarium will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., with a 5 p.m. closing time for off-peak dates that will be announced later.

Discounted rates for school field trips will be announced soon at wondersofwildlife.org.

Bass Pro Shops founder Johnny Morris has spent more than $100 million creating the conservation-oriented facility at the corner of Campbell Avenue and Sunshine Street.

According to WOW, the new 350,000-square-foot museum and aquarium is larger than the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History and features more than 1.5 miles of trails and exhibits that celebrate people who hunt, fish, and act as stewards of the land and water.

We've had Mixed reactions on the exhibit, some negative such as Josh Harrison who says....

(*)  ST LOUIS ZOO IS FREE. FOR THAT PRICE YOU CAN GET A DECENT HOTEL AND SPEND A WHOLE DAY AT THE SAINT LOUIS ZOO AND MUSEUMS.

And Melissa Thuro says....

(*) PRICEY! I'LL WAIT FOR REVIEWS TO COME IN BEFORE SHELLING OUT 40 DOLLARS FOR ANOTHER POSSIBLE DISAPPOINTMENT LIKE THE LAST ONE. AND TWO-HUNDRED FIFTY DOLLARS FOR A SEASON PASS!!! RIDICULOUS! I'LL GET A ZOO MEMBERSHIP FOR 75 DOLLARS INSTEAD

Not all negative responses though. Some people aren't surprised such as Simon Kangston who says.....

(*) THE TICKET PRICES ARE AS EXPECTED. HAVE YOU BEEN TO THE SHEDD AQUARIUM IN CHICAGO? I THINK THE TICKET PRICES ARE IN LINE WITH WHAT MOST TOURISTS WILL PAY AND THE FAMILY PACKAGES ARE EXCELLENT.

And Brenda Russell says...

(*)  REALLY, YOU COMPLAINERS MUST NOT EVER EAT OUT OR HAVE CELL PHONES OR CABLE/DISH/DIRECT TV, PRICES ARE NOT THAT BAD, IT IS LIKE ALL JOHNNY MORRIS' STUFF, FIRST CLASS, SPARE NO EXPENSE, WOW!
